For days, daily Corona infections have far exceeded 1,000 new cases. Now a new Corona forecast paints an even bleaker picture.
As recently as Aug. 17, there were 866 new Corona infections, a three-digit level. Since then, however, things have gone steeply upwards: 1,221 cases on the following Wednesday heralded a sad series of four-digit infection figures: 1,226 new infections on Thursday, then 1,258, 1,328, 1,121, 1,077 cases measured by Tuesday. Then Wednesday saw an even new high of 1,574 new Corona cases recorded, followed by 1,438 new cases on Thursday.
In its report, however, the Covid Prognosis Consortium expects another sharp increase. On the one hand, daily new infection figures are expected to reach 1,700 cases as early as next week, while on the other hand, hospitals are threatened with a doubling of intensive care and normal patients within the next two weeks. 415 hospitalized patients and 95 of them in intensive care units is the current level, which is expected to skyrocket.
In its forecast report, the consortium expects about 180 Corona patients in the ICU and 626 more in the normal ward as early as Sept. 8. The 180 intensive care patients are still halfway positively estimated, according to the forecast: In the worst case even 223 seriously ill are expected, in addition to 801 Corona patients in the normal wards.
